The History Of Tanning Beds

From the 1930s tanning machines to modern ets tanning beds - things they are a changing!

The history of tanning beds is really quite remarkable. They’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. ets tanning beds and tanning machines have been an industry leader right from the beginning.

ETS was founded in 1984 by Trevor and Edna Gray. By the ETS stands for European Tanning Systems. It was created to compete in the new and fast growing indoor tanning market. It began operations for their farm in Clayton Indiana.

In the beginning there only business operation was to distribute sun beds and tanning products. There business grew from a regional distributor to a national supplier in no time flat. They had to begin hiring others that would embrace their “Total Customer Satisfaction” philosophy.

This was the philosophy the company was built on and they had no intention of letting it fall by the way side because of growth. They recognized that is was responsible for their growth.

In January 1988 it relocated to a distribution center in Indianapolis Indiana with approx 80 employees working for them. They quickly opened distribution factories in Tampa and Los Angeles.

They again moved to accommodate expansion in 1992 moving its offices from the Park Fletcher area to the Northwest. Today they are still going strong providing quality beds to their dealers and salons.

Most of the brand names you recognize in the tanning arena, experienced very similar growth patterns. This was because of the continuously increasing demand by the consumer. Not only do consumers want access to tanning beds, they want access to the very best equipment available, and they are willing to pay more for those sessions.

After all for some of us tanning is serious business. It’s a life goal for us to stay that golden brown. It makes us feel good and look good!
