How Frequent To Use Tanning Beds
Know the effect of sun tanning beds and sun tanning booths on the skin
These days inquiring minds don’t want to know about the stars, they want to know how frequent to use tanning beds and are all sun tanning beds created equal. The good news! Tanners have become more aware of the effect of tanning booths on the skin.
It’s truly is about time, people began to ask questions that concern their health relating to indoor tanning. Yes, we all know the effects of the sun or tanning booths on the skin, after all we hear about it almost everyday. But, surprisingly we are not as educated about the basics of tanning beds. People are unsure about how long their sessions should be, or how often they can use the beds, and the differences between different makes and models of beds. Today’s your lucky day. You’re going to get all the basics in a 5 minute read.
First, it’s important to know that all tanning beds are not created equal. There are beginner beds, right through to pro tanner beds. You’ll want to book an appointment in a bed that’s appropriate to your level of tanning. If you’re not sure, talk to the attendant.
Now not only are all beds not created equal, even the exact same bed can produce different results. This is because the effectiveness of the bed is dependant on maintenance and the condition of the bulbs.
Tanning bulbs are at their peak when they are new, at about the half way mark of the life expectancy they are only putting out 50% of the tanning rays they did as new. From there they steadily decline. So if the salon is cutting costs by not changing the lamps until they have burnt out, you’re not getting your moneys worth. You can always ask the salon how often they replace their lamps.
The same goes for cleaning of the acrylic covers over the lamps. If these are not cleaned regularly you loose tanning effectiveness. Now all salons should be wiping the exterior down after each use. But at least once a week, they need to be removing dust and debris from the underside of the cover. Closely inspect the bed you are using to see if it appears to be done. Dust will filter out those tanning rays you are trying so hard to get.
The length of your tanning session will depend on several factors. Different beds require different tan times, just as different skin types will need different tan times. It is the attendant’s job to tell you the maximum time you should tan.
Most salons will recommend 2-4 visits a week, again depending on the bed. Some of the very high end beds only need one session per week to maintain your tan.
When you first start a tanning bed regime, you should visit the salon prior to your first appointment. Speak with the attendant in charge of the tanning area and determine which bed and how much time you will need to obtain the Tan You Want.
