People worry about their health and often answers aren’t easy to find, especially on sensitive subjects. So here’s some facts to help you sort truth from fiction.

The National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that you cannot pick up serious viral infections such as AIDS from a tanning bed, because these viral infections cannot live outside the body. Even with profuse sweating, the AIDS virus or other venereal diseases cannot be passed on to the next user.

The fear arises because people tend to tan nude on a sun bed to eliminate tan lines. And one wonders what the person tanning before them might have had and if they could catch it. Although these serious diseases can’t be passed on you can pick up funguses, crabs, and some other nasty critters. That’s why it’s important to tan at a reputable salon and always do a spot check on the bed you are about to use.

Tanning beds are required by law to disinfect the acrylic liner in the tanning bed between uses. The disinfectant they use is the same type of germicide used at hospitals to stop the spread of disease. So you should not be overly worried.

Now you cannot get herpes from a tanning bed, but doctors advise not to use a tanning bed, or tan in the sun when you have an outbreak. The additional body heat can increase the outbreak and increase the irritation.

Okay you say, that’s good to know, but what about the breast shrinking from using the bed. Well if that was the case, both guys [ah hmm] and gals would have something to worry about. If you sit in the sun do your breasts shrink? Not! Well neither do they when you use a tanning bed. However, if you have breast implants you will want to check with your doctor before using a tanning bed.
