Tanning Bed Dos and Don'ts

The tanning world of this century is like entering the twilight zone. The consumer choices are endless with improved tanning booths, tanning beds, tanning salons, and sunless tanning. No matter what style of bed you choose, you should know the dos and don’ts of choosing a tanning bed.

First list the salons you might be interested in. Narrow your choices by calling and and finding out what types of tanning booths they offer, what types of packages they have, how old their tanning booths are, and how often do they change the bulbs.

Find out what type of rooms they provide. Do they provide a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere to go with the bed. Ambiance is important to your overall well being.

Some salons offer better pricing if you purchase a 12 month package. Some will even give you a trial session free. Always make sure you are getting the best value for the money you are spending. Once you’ve decided on a salon, there are certain things you should do to keep yourself healthy and looking good.

Always use a tanning lotion that is designed for indoor tanning. These lotions are packed with additional nutrients and moisturizers to keep your skin healthy while you tan. Do not use outdoor tanning products indoors.

Always moisturize skin before and after tanning. This will not only enhanced your tan, it will keep your skin looking healthy and younger. It can also ease discomfort, such as itching, caused by tanning.

It’s a good idea to shower after tanning. This will have you feeling refreshed, remove any lotion residue, and any germs you may have been exposed to.

There are some serious health risks associated with using tanning booths, or tanning in the sun. Be sure you are aware of all the health risks, before you decide to tan. The major health risk is skin cancer.

When you are tanning be sure to use common sense. Don’t over expose yourself, don’t stay in the bed longer than recommend. More is not better. Do use a sunscreen level appropriate for your skin, do wear goggles, and do follow the guidelines provided by the salon.

If you have any direct medical concerns check with your doctor. Tanning like everything in life has its risks and advantages. An educated tanner is less likely to run into trouble. Be safe & look good!
